MGM Rewards Gold takes 75,000 Tier Credits in a calendar year and Platinum takes 200,000. MGM publishes exactly one earn rate: 4 Tier Credits per $1 on hotel stays, dining, shows and spa. At that rate Gold is $18,750 of spend and Platinum is $50,000. Until December 31, 2026, MGM's Daily Tier Status Accelerator cuts that to $10,000 for Gold in one day and $20,000 for Platinum in two.
| Tier (Tier Credits) | Spend, spread out | Spend, Accelerator days | The plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pearl (20,000) | $5,000 | $3,750 | one day of 10,000 (+5,000), then 5,000 more |
| Gold (75,000) | $18,750 | $10,000 | one day of 40,000 (+60,000), or two of 20,000 (+20,000 each) |
| Platinum (200,000) | $50,000 | $20,000 | two days of 40,000 (+60,000 each) |
Spend means eligible charges at MGM's Las Vegas properties at 4 Tier Credits per $1, before taxes and tips, which earn nothing. NOIR is invitation-only, so it can't be bought on a plan.
The Accelerator pays one bonus per promotional day (midnight to 11:59 pm Pacific) on the Tier Credits you earn that day: 5,000 earns +1,250, 10,000 earns +5,000, 20,000 earns +20,000 and 40,000 earns +60,000. The top level is the one that matters. 40,000 earned becomes 100,000, which works out to 10 Tier Credits per dollar instead of 4. That's 2.5 times the normal rate, and it's why Gold costs the same $10,000 whether you hit 40,000 once or 20,000 twice.
A dollar on a room or a dinner buys the room or the dinner. So the real price of Gold is the spend you would not have made anyway. If your trip already puts $6,000 on the folio, the honest price is the extra $4,000, plus the work of landing it on one day. If you would never spend $10,000 at MGM in a day, the honest price is the spread-out column, and it may not be worth it.
Some of it comes back. Hotel-folio charges and dining also earn 1 MGM Rewards Point per $1, and points are worth a cent, so $10,000 of it returns $100 in points. Reaching Gold during the year adds a $100 Tier Celebration Credit and reaching Platinum adds $200, one for each tier you reach, paid in points. Platinum also brings an Air Travel Credit of up to $600 for a later trip, paid as FREEPLAY or points. So the two-day Platinum plan returns up to $1,100 of its $20,000: up to $200 in points, $300 in celebration credits and the $600 air credit.
MGM does not publish a gaming rate. Its earn page says slot and video poker Tier Credits vary "based on your wager, game type, and game denomination", and table games go by time, average bet and game. So nobody can price Gold in coin-in from the outside, and this page won't guess.
You can find your own rate. Once you've earned 2,500 Tier Credits in a day, the MGM Rewards app and website show a Daily Tier Status Accelerator box with your total for the day. Divide that by what you put through the machine and enter it below with the game's house edge. Gaming and non-gaming credits add up toward the same daily bonus, so a dinner and a show count toward the same 40,000 as your play. If you do play for it, play the lowest-edge game you can play correctly. On 9/6 Jacks or Better that is 0.46% with perfect play, which the video poker trainer teaches.
Pick the tier, put in the Tier Credits you already have this year, and it works out what the rest takes and whether it fits before December 31. Leave the rate at 4 for hotel, dining, shows and spa.

From MGM's tier page. Gold: resort fees waived on up to two rooms per trip when you book direct, free valet and self-parking, a 20% bonus on SLOT DOLLARS, the $100 Tier Celebration Credit, an annual cruise in an oceanview room with Royal Caribbean or Celebrity, and Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite through MGM's account link. Platinum adds a 30% SLOT DOLLARS bonus, the $200 credit, up to $600 in Air Travel Credit, a balcony cruise and one standard-suite upgrade a year. The Marriott match stays Gold Elite.
So price it against your own trips. Count next year's nights at an MGM Las Vegas property, multiply by the resort fee, and add parking and the celebration credit. If that beats the spend you'd have to add, Gold pays. Platinum's extra $20,000 over two days mostly buys the air credit and a cruise cabin, so it pays only if you'd use both.
Caesars runs its own daily bonus, priced in the Caesars Diamond calculator. Every Vegas program's base rate is in players cards compared, and comps are covered in the comps guide.
